Description
Highest pilgrimage in Europe at 3538m. Mass at 10h. Pilgrims must leave by midnight if they want to arrive in time. A mountain in the Piedmont region which Bonifacius Rotarius climbed on 1 Sept. 1358 to place a representation of the Virgin Mary for surviving her captivity in the Holy Land during the Crusades. A statue of the Virgin, 3 metres high, was raised to the summit in 1899, thanks to a collection made by the children of Italy. Good walkers.
